Thursday, 19 February / Empowered by Marc Jacobs

When satisfying my FW desires by stalking various style websites, I often appreciate the performance of a catwalk as much as the clothing. This has never been more true than how I felt when watching Tim Blank's video of Marc by Marc Jacobs 2015 'fall ready-to-wear' collection. With "Children of the Revolution" as the empowered accompaniment to the collection, I felt inspired to layer a few clashing prints and brandish "SOLIDARITY" across my left leg in some expression of feminist enthusiasm. The collection combines William Morris prints with bold colours and varying structures appearing both comfortable and confident. The infusion of 60s/70s inspiration with red, white and blue exaggerated the socialist aspect of the collection, and encouraged a sensation of nationalism, purged with the importance of youth culture.

The fresh-faced models walked with sass upon a bold green carpet, dominating the 'earth' beneath them, as is plausible for today's generation: making our mark on this planet. Though I'm not an advocator of bold prints, flowing silhouettes or Les-Mis style berets, I could see the vision behind Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier. Combining military tones with stern-faced young women, Tim Blanks highlights that the 'warped testament to the power of popular media insinuated itself as a subtext into today's show', as we were confronted with the vulnerability of adolescents within the 21st century's viciously tangled relationship with warfare.

Though I may not be racing to grab each item from Marc Jacob's collection (I will always be a monochrome girl at heart), I certainly felt inspired by his 'model army' and their capability to hold a crowd with radical clothing to emphasise the radical potential of today's youth culture.
